Close down Harlan-Winkelmann / Stop vivisection

Harlan-Winkelmann is part of the Harlan Sprague Dawley Inc. with its head office in the United States. The internationally working company delivers animals for experiments as well as special food to laboratories. As you can take from their own information, the German subsidiary Harlan-Winkelmann GmbH is the second largest breeder of so-called laboratory animals worldwide and also in Germany. The largest one in this resort is Charles Rivers.

Harlan-Winkelmann is based in the district of Paderborn in the East of Northrhine-Westfalia. The area with 800 imprisoned dogs is located outskirts of the district Borchen, hidden on the edge of a forest in Alfen. The dogs are beagles as well as dogs of mixed races and they are used for nicotine experiments. The female raised dogs lead a very sad “life” as birth machines. They “produce” thousands of puppies every year. These puppies are sold to the laboratories after about 10 weeks.

The breeding area for smaller animals on the other hand is based in a housing district in Borchen. Here is the rearing for guinea pigs, hamsters, rats and mice in several large buildings

The animals can be ordered online and are promoted with the very cynical slogan “The key to success”. The amount for buying a dog for experiments is between 1,000 and 1,600 Euro.

Harlan-Winkelmann is diametrically opposed to the progress without vivisection by its breeding of “laboratory animals”. All companies that breed animals for experiments have a huge economical interest in continued experiments with animals in general. Harlan will surely do everything possible to assure a sales market for a prolonged period for raised animals. Harlan delivers, among other companies, animals to Huntingdon Life Sciences, the largest laboratory for animal experiments orders in Europe. Since 1999, there has been a lot of success in the global campaign against this cruel laboratory by the animal rights initiative SHAC. By going on this way, HLS will be closed down soon.
